This 12-day trip is an excellent opportunity to get to know some of the most stunning parts of Mongolia. You will travel in an in the 4WD vehicle through the Central and Southern parts of Mongolia, combining visits through most interesting museums, wonderful National Parks, medieval temples, freshwater lake & rivers, vast steppes, majestic mountains and the famous Gobi sand dunes combined with green oasis. Overnight accommodation will be in ger camps throughout the countryside and these will allow you to relax in comfort in the evenings while experiencing fun and excitement during the day.  Our past clients enjoyed every minute of the tour – we think you will too.

Attraction places: Ulaanbaatar city is the capital of Mongolia finally settled on its present site in 1778. Holy mountains surround it; the Bogd Uul Mountain to the south, the Songino Mountain to the west, the Bayanzurkh Mountain to the east and the Chingeltei Mountain to the north.

Activity: Sightseeing around Ulaanbaatar such as National historical Museum, Palace Museum of Bogd King, Zaisan memorial hill, Sukhbaatar’s square etc.

Day 2 Drive to Terelj National Park. Turtle rock and meditation temple.

Attraction places: Terelj National Park has located 70 km from Ulaanbaatar and protected by the Mongolian government since 1993. The park has an area of 2932 km square and it is famous for its extraordinary formations of rocks, gorgeous nature sceneries and Aryabal temple. Aryabal temple is known as a Meditation temple to Mongols. Surrounding places of the temple are very suitable for photographing and hiking.   

Activity: Turtle rock formation and meditation temple, visit to a nomadic family. Free horse riding (1 hour), you may shoot archery.  Hike in the beautiful nature.

Day 3 Drive to Hustai National park. See the wild Takhi.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Attraction places: Hustai National Park is a place; you can observe Takhi horses or best known Prejwalski’s horses. Scholars reintroduced the Takhi horse here in 1992. Covering landscapes of the park are concerned with the steppe & forest-steppe zone.  The area itself is very peaceful and beautiful, so there are a lot of opportunities to see wildlife.

Activity: Visit a small Takhi, the wild horse’s museum. Watch a 15 minutes documentary film. See the Takhi horse and other wild life. Hike around for a little while and take some good shots

Day 4 Drive to Ugii Lake. Visit the Khushuu Taidam – Turkic monuments.

Attraction places: Khushuu Taidam is on the way from Ugii lake to the Karakorum. These monuments were built for the memorial of the ancient Turkic state between VI-VIII centuries. Ugii Lake is located near the Ugii town.  The lake is about 15km long and 4 km wide. This lake is rich with fish and wetland birds. Some birds that can be observed in this place are Reddish Duck, Relict Gull, Swan Goose, White-naped Crane and many more.

Activity: Visit the Khushuu Taidam – Turkic monuments. Enjoy the lake by walking, swimming and sunbathing. Take boating (half-hour). Watching the wetland birds and plays some traditional ankle-bone games in the evening

Day 5 Drive to Karakorum and Erdenezuu monastery.

Attraction places: the Karakorum was the capital of the Mongolian Great Empire of Chinggis Khaan in the 13th century. Now it is one of the biggest soum of Mongolia and there are some places where tourists like to visit, including ancient Erdenezuu monastery, Turtle Rock, Penis Rock, and Great Kings’ monument. Erdenezuu monastery was established in 1586 and was protected by the Mongolian government since 1944. The monastery has 108 stupas, an active temple and a worthy monastery museum that displays the Buddhist cultural items between the 16-18th century mostly.     

Activity: Take photos on the way. Stop Deer stone. Erdenezuu monastery and its famous museum.

Visit funny Penis Rock, Great Kings’ monument and Turtle Rock where you may see the panoramic view of Karakorum and Erdenezuu monastery. Hiking to the Orkhon river

Day 6 Drive to Ongi temple ruins. Visit to a rebuilt main temple.

Attraction places: Ongi Temple which was one of the biggest monasteries of Mongolia in the 18th century. The temple was established in both rights and lift bank of Gobi River – Ongi. Then it was destroyed in the communist time. There is a small ger museum where you can see very interesting remainders of the ancient monastery. Wonderful evening view of the ruin is perfect for good shots!

Activity: Visit a rebuilt main temple and a small ger museum which displays a leader monk’s used items. Hike to a type of ancient stupa ruin. Hike around the area and take some good photos.

Day 7 Drive to Bayanzag. Visit small Paleontology museum.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Attraction places: Bayanzag, where you will see famous Flaming Cliffs and the forest of Gobi saxaul trees. The area is famous for its dinosaur findings which lived there 70 million years ago. Especially, dinosaur fossilized eggs and several types of dinosaur bones were found in Bayanzag's first time in the world by America scientist Roy Chapmen in 1922. The cliff of Bayanzag looks pretty orange-like “Flame” when the sun sits.

Activity: Visit the small Paleontology museum of Bayanzag and Interest some findings were founded by locals. Free walk & photograph in flaming cliffs and saxaul forest. If you want, you can look for dinosaur eggs and fossils. Watch 15 minutes fact film about Roy Chapmen’s expeditions in the camp

Day 8 Drive to Khongor Sand Dunes. Visit to the Singing Dunes.

Attraction places: Khongor Sand Dunes is located in the western part of Southern Gobi province. The dunes extended about 180km and 300m high, it makes one of the biggest sand dunes in Mongolia. The sand dune color change, walking on dunes, riding camel and sun sitting are the most exciting things here. 

Activity: Visit the Singing Dunes, which is the highest sand dune. Climb on the dunes. Photographing and see the sun sitting on dunes.

Day 9 Visit the nomadic family & camel ride trial by the Khongor Sand Dunes.

Attraction places: Nomadic family. This is a place you will visit a local nomadic family and experience their way of life. Most nomadic families in the Gobi usually have a big number of camels and some goats.  The family will be a simple nomadic family near the dunes. Enjoy their hospitality, have some camel riding and try some dairy products.

Activity: Visit the nomadic family. 1 hour camel ride trial by the Khongor Sand Dunes. Free hiking and photograph in different part of the sand dunes. Stargazing in the evening.

Day 10 Drive to Natural Museum of Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park.

Attraction places: The Gobi, one of the world’s unusual natural zones and it covers many parts of Mongolia territory. Most people misunderstand the Gobi is like the desert of Sahara. In truth, the Gobi is much different and it has nomadic families and plenty of rare & domesticated animals such as two-humped Bactrian camel, Gobi bear, Ibex, gazelle, lizards, etc. Air temperature in the Gobi reaches +40 degree in the summer time and -30 degree in the winter time. Big sand dunes and ancient dinosaur fossils are the symbols of the Gobi. Yolin Am or “Vulture Gorge” is an admirable picturesque place, surrounded by sheer rocky walls, with glaciers even in July and it was protected by the Mongolian government since 1965. There is a small museum of Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. The museum displays the geographical condition, flora, fauna, minerals and some dinosaur fossils.

Activity: Natural Museum of Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Hiking to glacier and photographing in Yoliin Am, some wildlife viewing. Watch a movie that named “Weeping camel” or others. Play Mongolian traditional game

Day 11 Fly back to Ulaanbaatar. Take a city tour.

Attraction places: International Intellectual Museum displays over 11000 intellectual items from 130 countries around the world and over 5000 of them are puzzles. All the items are classified into 15 subcategories in order to make visitors understand the scientific nature of exhibits. Most of the displays of the museum represent various branches of sciences in simplified form by toys and puzzles. That fact that visitors are allowed to touch and challenge themselves by putting puzzles together. Show Traditional Folklore Concert. It is a witness of the wonder of Mongolian throat singing, melodious dancing, pliant contortionism, and melodious musical instruments.  

Activity: Fly to Dalanzadgad (Eznis, 1.2 hours) International Intellectual museum, shopping for souvenirs, cashmere, and woolen products, Show Mongolian traditional folklore concert by Moon Stone or Tumen Ekh ensemble.
