The main highlights of this trip are the traditional Naadam festival and the Great Gobi desert and you will take part in hiking, horse & camel riding and many other activities. The anniversary of the Mongolian Folk Revolution of 1921 or the Naadam festival is organized on 11-12th July annually and 2010 sees the celebration of the 89th anniversary. Naadam is the biggest joy to all Mongols and during the Naadam festival, we enjoy the three manly sports: wrestling, archery and horse racing.

It is impossible to imagine the Mongols without their horses. At Naadam you will see  6 different ages of over 2000 horses will race for three days and the jockeys will be only little children? Also, the strongest 512 wrestlers will compete in green fields for state titles and female & male archers shoot by traditional methods. Classic Naadam Festival tour allows you to see all of these and it will be a wonderful cultural experience.

Attraction places: Ulaanbaatar city, the capital of Mongolia was established in 1639 in central Mongolia and was moved to its present location in 1778 after several times of nomadic movements. Now the capital is located in the right bank of Tuul River, surrounded by 4 sacred mountains. The city was a traditional felt yurt city until the revolution of 1921. Since that time it was changed into the European style of metropolitan city and your visit will show you the combination of traditional felt yurts from ancient time, Soviet-style of apartment blocks from Communist time and modern style of tall glassy towers. Since almost half of the Mongolian population lives in Ulaanbaatar, it is an educational, economic, political and vital center of Mongolia.

Activity: Meet driver and guide at the airport and then the museum of Mongolian National History. Here you can get all the historical information about Mongolia from human begins until today and Sukhbaatar’s square, the main square of Ulaanbaatar. The Palace Museum of Bogd King, it is not only Mongolian Last King’s Winter Palace but also Buddhist museum. Zaisan memorial in Bogd Khan mountain. Here you can see the whole Ulaanbaatar city from a higher point.

Day 2 See the preview of the Naadam Festival.

Attraction places: Naadam is the biggest festival in Mongolia and we celebrate on the 11-12th of July annually. Originally it is a combination of three main games and there are wrestling, archery & horse-racing. In modern days Naadam officially commemorates the anniversary of the revolution of 1921 that Mongolia proclaimed independence.

Activity: See the preview of the Naadam Festival. Watch “Archery” and “Ankle bone shooting”. Visit the horse-racing area to see the race of the baby horse. Try horse riding, enjoy nature.

Day 3 Attend to the Opening Ceremony and enjoy the parade show.

Attraction places: Naadam. The 11th of July is the official beginning day of the Naadam festival.  Early in the morning, traditionally dressed Mongols gather in the central Stadium and watch the Opening Ceremony by Mongolian president. Every year 512 and more wrestlers compete for a state title, 6 different ages of 2000 horses’ race and female & male best shooters compete in 2 divisions. So it is big fun for Mongols and there is much to do during Naadam days. End the trip.  

Activity: Attend to the Opening Ceremony and enjoy the parade show. Take good pictures. See the first round of wrestling competition. Watch Archery and “Shagain Harvaa”-a shooting contest. Enjoy a horse racing in Hui Doloon Hudag.

Day 4 Fly to Dalanzadgad. Visit the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park.

Attraction places: The Gobi, one of the world’s unusual natural zones and it covers many parts of Mongolia territory. Most people misunderstand the Gobi is like the desert of Sahara. In truth, the Gobi is much different and it has nomadic families and plenty of rare & domesticated animals such as two-humped Bactrian camel, Gobi bear, Ibex, gazelle, lizards, etc. Air temperature in the Gobi reaches +40 degree in summertime and -30 degree in wintertime. Big sand dunes and ancient dinosaur fossils are the symbols of the Gobi. Yolin Am or “Vulture Gorge” is an admirable picturesque place, surrounded by sheer rocky walls, with glaciers even in July and it was protected by the Mongolian government since 1965. There is a small museum of Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. The museum displays the geographical condition, flora, fauna, minerals and some dinosaur fossils.

Activity: Fly to Dalanzadgad (Eznis, 1.2 hours) Natural Museum of Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Hiking to glacier and photographing in Yoliin Am, some wildlife viewing. Watch a movie that named “Weeping camel” or others. Play Mongolian traditional game.

Day 5 Drive to Khongor Sand Dunes. Nomad family and camel ride.

Attraction places: Khongor Sand Dunes is located in the western part of Southern Gobi province. The dunes extended about 180km and 300m high, it makes one of the biggest sand dunes in Mongolia. The sand dune color change, walking on dunes, riding camel and sun sitting are the most exciting things here. This is a place you will visit a local nomadic family and experience their way of life. Most nomadic families in the Gobi usually have a big number of camels and some goats.  The family will be a simple nomadic family near the dunes. Enjoy their hospitality, have some camel riding and try some dairy products.

Activity: Visit the Singing Dunes that is the highest sand dune. Photographing and climb on the dunes.  Visit the nomadic family. Camel ride trial, free hiking and photographing. Stargazing in the evening.

Day 6 Drive to Bayanzag & Flaming Cliffs. Visit small Paleontology museum.

Attraction places: Bayanzag, where you will see famous Flaming Cliffs and the forest of Gobi saxaul trees. The area is famous for its dinosaur findings which lived there 70 million years ago. Especially, dinosaur fossilized eggs and several types of dinosaur bones were found in Bayanzag's first time in the world by America scientist Roy Chapmen in 1922. The cliff of Bayanzag looks pretty orange-like “Flame” when the sun sits.

Activity: Visit the small Paleontology museum of Bayanzag and Interest some findings were founded by locals. Free walk & photograph in flaming cliffs and saxaul forest. If you want, you can look for dinosaur eggs and fossils. Watch 15 minutes fact film about Roy Chapmen’s expeditions in the camp.

Day 7 Fly to Ulaanbaatar. Drive to Terelj National park. Take a city tour.

Attraction places: Terelj National Park has located 70 km from Ulaanbaatar and protected by the Mongolian government since 1993. The park has an area of 2932 km square and it is famous for its extraordinary formations of rocks, gorgeous nature sceneries and Aryabal temple. Aryabal temple is known as a Meditation temple to Mongols. Surrounding places of the temple are very suitable for photographing and hiking. Traditional Folklore Concert is a witness of the wonder of Mongolian throat singing, melodious dancing, pliant contortionism, and melodious musical instruments.  

Activity: Fly to Ulaanbaatar from Dalanzadgad (Eznis, 1.5 hours). Hike in the beautiful nature and then shopping for souvenirs, cashmere and woolen products. Show Mongolian traditional folklore concert by Moon Stone or Tumen Ekh ensemble.
